Week in Review: June 27 - July 3

A new MCPS superintendent, the Sue Marcum homicide investigation, and a newly minted Bethesda historic district made headlines this week.

The news week in Bethesda began with updates in the Sue Marcum murder investigation. The Washington Post that the DNA of Jorge Reuda Landeros, the yoga and Spanish instructor accused of killing the popular American University professor, was found on what police believe to be the murder weapon. The news was first reported by the Washington Examiner.

The reports cited documents filed in federal court in June, charging Landeros – currently in Mexico – with unlawful flight.

In crime news, the Capital One Bank on Bethesda Avenue was and images of the suspect were captured on the bank’s security camera. In government, the Montgomery County Council designated Bethesda’s Greenwich Forest neighborhood as a after a year of controversy and compromise. And in school news, long-time MCPS superintendent Jerry Weast at the helm of the public school system, and students and staff Joshua P. Starr.

Finally this week, Patch reported on our with the family of slain Lululemon employee Jayna Murray. The family reflected on celebrating Jayna’s life, connecting with the Bethesda community, and the emotional experience of re-entering the store where she was killed as the renovated store to the public last Friday.
