Yeardley Love Murder: George Huguely's Trial Enters Second Week

Charlottesville prosecutors called investigators and the state medical examiner to the stand Monday.

Prosecutors resumed testimony Monday in the trial of George Huguely V, the University of Virginia lacrosse player accused in the death of girlfriend Yeardley Love in May 2010.

Huguely, now 24, of Chevy Chase is accused of beating Cockeysville native Love, then 22, to death in her off-campus Charlottesville apartment. The trial began on Feb. 6.

Monday's proceedings in Charlottesville Circuit Court included testimony from the state medical examiner and graphic photos shown to the jury from Love's autopsy. Love's mother, Sharon, left the room while the autopsy photos were shown, while Huguely looked away, ABC2 News reported.

The medical examiner testified that Love suffered numerous injuries consistent with smothering, a strike, falling and strangulation, WJZ-TV reported.

Prosecutors also showed pictures investigators took while searching Huguely's apartment, as well as photos and video taken of Huguely after his arrest. He told police at the time that the injuries were sustained in a recent lacrosse game, according to ABC2 News.

Investigators have not testified if red stains in Huguely's bathroom are blood, or, if so, whose it was, The Daily Progress, a Charlottesville newspaper, reported.

The trial could last through next week. WBAL-TV reporter Lowell Melser suggested on Twitter Monday evening that Virginia prosecutors could be able to rest their case by Wednesday.
