Bethesda United Church of Christ Drama Presentation

The service on July 28 will feature a sermon drama, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to
Jericho,” based on the parable of the Good Samaritan. The award-winning script, written by Tom S. Long, runs about twenty-five minutes. In the play, a woman acting out the part of the Samaritan finds the role too demanding and
tries a succession of other parts: the person helped, the priest who passed by,
and finally a robber. In each case, she is confronted and challenged by the
Biblical message behind the story and by the figure of Christ who appears in
all the scenes. The surprising ending makes a powerful statement about the
Crucifixion and Resurrection.
