CATARACTS, GLAUCOMA, DRY EYES AND CORNEAL TRANSPLANTATION
Chevy Chase At Home presents an evening program featuring Joel Engelstein, M.D., an ophthalmologist specializing in complex cataracts, diseases of the cornea, glaucoma and dry eyes. Dr. Engelstein served as chief of the corneal transplant service at the Washington Hospital Center for twenty years and also served as chief of ophthalmic surgical training there.
He will explain and discuss the different kinds of cataracts and different types of cataract surgery, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of intraocular lens implants. Dr. Engelstein will define glaucoma and discuss how it is managed with medical, laser, and surgical treatments. The diagnosis and treatment options for dry eye, a common problem as we age which can sometimes lead to more serious complications, will also be discussed.
Dr. Engelstein will close with a discussion of which diseases interfere with corneal clarity and recent developments in modern corneal transplantation.
