Radiation Health Threats

“A radiation accident anywhere, is radiation accident everywhere and Luck favors the prepared!”  Chernobyl, Three-mile Island, and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.  Three widely dispersed locations, but with consequences world-wide.  Dr. Shapiro, a Medical Officer in the Office of Counter-Terrorism and Emergency Coordination at the FDA will present a lecture on the scientific basics of radiation, discuss some of the best known radiation accidents that occurred around the world in recent years, and focus on the health consequences caused by different radioisotopes released during these accidents.  Attendees will be informed about possible radiation accidents scenarios, special treatment considerations for exposure to radiation and what you can prepare ahead of time to help protect yourself and your family in the event of such an incident.
