Jean Duquoc: Sun and Light in Celtic Country

Renowned artist, Jean Duquoc will be in person at Merritt Gallery for an exhibition of his works on canvas & paper on April 3rd from 5-8pm. The public is invited to join serious art collectors at this event and have an opportunity to meet the artist himself as they view the collection. This dynamic collection of original paintings and pastels is available to view and to purchase at Merritt Gallery April 3-12, 2014. Born in 1937 in Brittany, France, Jean Duquoc is influenced primarily by the landscape of his beloved country. It is his primary source of inspiration. In a long and celebrated career, this artist has distinguished himself with work that is bold, saturated and infused with color. A self-taught painter, he found resonance with Van Gogh, Gauguin and the Fauves as he turned to simplified, lyrically abstracted forms and raw, unmixed colors to evoke the sky, the earth and the sea. Duquoc plays with color and light, maintaining a focus on the emotive qualities of his medium to orchestrate powerful landscapes that encompass the beauty of the region and his love of his home. For Duquoc these works are not mere painterly explorations, but transformative works. They are transcendent moments articulated in paint, where the cosmic force of the universe may be seen and explored. It is, according to the artist, in moments of quiet reverence that the magnificence of an ever changing and dynamic landscape reveals itself. The work of Jean Duquoc is highly regarded and collected and may be found in both distinguished public and private collections worldwide.
