Songs for a New World

Young Artists of America, Inc. (YAA), founded in 2011 by operatic tenor Rolando Sanz and Maryland Classic Youth
Orchestras Music Director Kristofer Sanz,
present a fully-orchestrated performance of Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a
New World
, conducted by the Tony Award-winning composer himself, on Saturday, March 15 at 7:30PM and Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 3PM at
the Winston Churchill High School in
Potomac, MD
.

Songs for a New World, very often referred to as a
theatrical song cycle, premiered off Broadway in 1995. Originally developed for
a cast of four and a six-piece band, Jason Robert Brown went on to score the
entire show for full orchestra and will premiere 5 new orchestrations for this
particular production by Young Artists of America. He will personally work with
students and guest vocalists leading up to the production and conduct the two
performances at Churchill High School.

 In addition
to featuring some of the most talented high school age students from Maryland,
Washington, D.C. and Virginia, this production highlights a strong cast of guest
performers, including 13 the Musical’s
Adam Michael Kaufman on piano, Helen
Hayes Award nominee, frequent Signature Theatre actress and featured actor in
the Broadway run of Ragtime, Tracy Lynn Olivera, Helen Hayes Award
winner Nora Y. Payton, local
up-and-coming actor, dancer, and YAA alumnus Michael Mainwaring, Catholic University Voice Faculty Professor Dr. Rachelle Fleming (Renee Fleming’s
sister and co-collaborator on the American Voices project at the Kennedy
Center), and Young Artists of America’s artistic director Rolando Sanz. This unique collaboration between students and
accomplished vocalists, musicians and composers creates a training ground for
the next generation of musical theater performers.
