Community Corner

GIVES Soup & Bread Supper

For the past 37 years, GIVES (Garrett Park Intercommunity Voluntary Experiment in Sharing) has collected money to help relieve hunger locally and internationally. In these difficult economic times, the need to feed, clothe, provide shelter and training for so many is at an all time high.

The Soup & Bread Supper will be held at Garrett Park Town Hall and GIVES volunteers are asking that attendees make a donation at the door.  As always, 100% of all proceeds collected will benefit Thrive DC and the American Friends Service Committee. To  RSVP,  call Nancy Walz at 301-933-5735 by no later than Nov 12 and tell her if you can bring either a soup or bread with butter to share with 10-12 people. In addition, GIVES is asking all who attend to bring a beverage to share and their own soup bowl and silverware.

In addition to enjoying the wonderful food contributed, a short program will include an introduction to new and returning officers and a discussion about what's new in 2011 for GIVES.  Also, Nathan Mishler,  Community and Volunteer Coordinator for Thrive DC, will speak briefly about volunteer opportunities available and answer any questions.
