New Year Parenting Resolutions

With the new year just around the corner, it is a great time to reflect back on the past year and look forward to the year ahead. That being said, it's also a great opportunity to look back at how things went with you and your children this past year, and think about ways to improve in the coming year.

Here are a few things to think about:

1)     What things did I do a good job on this year? (i.e., managing negative behavior appropriately, not losing my cool, striving to treat all of my children fairly and equally, being available for them when needed).

2)     What things can I improve on in the new year? (i.e., not reacting so strongly when angry at my child, devoting more time to them, being fair when enforcing consequences).

3)     Are there services/resources that I should obtain to help my child? (i.e., tutoring, therapy, evaluation for learning disabilities/ADHD, occupational therapy, gym membership).

4)     Are there services/resources that I should obtain for myself (I.e., therapy, gym membership, join a book club).

If you feel that you have a lot to improve on in the coming year and are dedicated to doing so, I would suggest writing down your answers to these questions. Then, keep that sheet of paper (or computer file) easily accessible and refer back to it throughout the year to make sure you are sticking to your goals.

Happy New Year!!
