Youth Writing Contest Winners to be Honored at Bethesda Literary Festival

Youth Writing Contest winners from grades K-8 who live in or attend school in Montgomery County. Produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership, sponsored by Washington Parent magazine.

April 5, 2013 (Bethesda, MD) – The Bethesda Urban Partnership announces 12 winners of the Bethesda Youth Writing Contest. The 12 contest winners will read their stories and receive prizes at 3:00pm, Sunday, April 21, at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, 7400 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda. In addition, their essays will be printed in Washington Parent. The students’ teachers will also be honored for encouraging their students to write, providing them with important skills and dedicating themselves to teaching tomorrow’s leaders.

These winners were selected from a pool of more than 650 entries received from more than 25 local schools. The topic for the contest was, “One Thing I Do Well,” and was open to students who live or attend school in Montgomery County, MD and are currently enrolled in grades K-8.

All entries were judged against their peers based on creativity, composition, grammar and spelling. Winners’ essays ranged a variety of topics including being a good friend, sailing, music, skiing, writing, ice hockey, helping others, Irish step dancing, gymnastics, and drawing.

The Youth Writing Contest was produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership and sponsored by Washington Parent magazine.

Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc.
