Chevy Chase Elementary Wins $45,000 Technology Package

Chevy Chase Elementary was one of three national grand-prize winners of CDW-G and Discovery Education's 2012 Win a Wireless Lab Sweepstakes.

On Tuesday, April 23, students at Chevy Chase Elementary began a new chapter of learning in the classroom.  The school was one of three national grand-prize winners of CDW-G and Discovery Education’s 2012 Win a Wireless Lab Sweepstakes that earned them 20 Lenovo notebooks, Cisco wireless access points, a Promethean interactive whiteboard, a $5,000 grant from Discovery Education for Discovery Education Streaming Plus and a Discovery Education Science Night and more.

Students from third, fourth and fifth grade were eager to use the new technology and explore the opportunities now at their fingertips.  To learn how to use the new technology, students took an interactive scavenger hunt that sent them on a digital quest for videos, images and articles.  Subjects like science and math were brought to life through multimedia, contributing to deeper understanding and comprehension.

Chevy Chase wasted no time putting the new prize package to use as one student noted that teachers use the interactive white board throughout the day, mostly for science and social studies.  Music teacher Renee Hammond, however, uses the board to project song lyrics for students to sing along to and to teach lessons in conducting.  Hammond contributed to Chevy Chase’s success by entering the sweepstakes once per day for the content period.  As she looked in on the student training sessions, students gave her a round of applause for her efforts.
