In appreciation of the PATCH e-mail circulation and the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club

Thanks to the e-mail circulation of the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Patch, I saw the article NBC’s "The Voice" Star Judith Hill to headline Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, July 14th posted by Bethesda Stories on July 9 in time to purchase 2 tickets for the last remaining seats for Sunday's performance. 

Thanks to the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club for the venue that was able to book a Judith Hill performance in Bethesda.  Having seen Judith Hill in the movie 20 Feet from Stardom at the Avalon Theatre and cheering her on during this last season of The Voice it was a delight to see her live performance.  She connected with the audience, providing highlights of her whirlwind year, and sang two songs from the Battle Round and Knockout Round of The Voice, It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World and Always on My Mind.  Showing the breath of her talent, she sang from the piano and the songs she sang during the encore were just as strong as the prearranged selections.  Judith Hill is indeed a talented singer and performer and 20 Feet from Stardom provides a preview of what it will take to cross-over from a back-up to lead singer. 

It is great to know that an historic community theater has been repositioned as a music venue offering sell out performances.   By comparison, the Avalon Theater of Chevy Chase has survived as an independent movie theater, celebrating its 90th year as a community theater, with first-run commercial films, in addition to serving as a venue for foreign films and film festivals.  One private, one non-profit, both thriving community assets.

In answer to the question, Will The Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club Work?  A resounding YES.  A great venue, great performances, and proximity to public parking.  Next time, advance ticket purchases and seating for supper.
