Plein Air Competition & Arts Festival: Enjoying the Weekend in Easton, MD

Looking for a spur-of-the-moment get away? Visit Easton this weekend and become a part of the plein air arts festival.  The third week in July, this year July 15-21, artists from around the world spend six days painting along the streets of Historic Easton as participants in the Plein Air Competition & Arts Festival.  The 2013 Plein Air-Easton has begun with 58 artists, with easels, painting images of a select building, landscape, or other picturesque scenes, of their choosing, in the Delmarva Peninsula. The week long event also includes workshops, artists’ studio tours, and art exhibits and sales at local galleries, reaching full festival pitch during the weekend, July 19-21. Visitors are invited to Watch Artists Paint, to participate in the Quick Draw Competition, and to enter children, ages 5-12, in the Children’s Quick Draw.  Quick Draw: The Next Generation is a competition for emerging artists, ages 21 and younger.

At the end of the week artists select their best works to be judged in a competition for cash awards and a Grand Prize Award, with selected works presented on Sunday at the Plein Air-Easton! Competition Gallery Exhibit and Sale at the Academy Art Museum.  The sponsors, The Friends of Plein Air-Easton, proudly note that "The event has consistently boasted brisk art sales and Plein Air–Easton! continues to be the hottest art sale of the year in the Mid-Atlantic region and well beyond."

Enjoy Plein Air-Easton this weekend!
