Rep. Lindy Boggs Died at Chevy Chase Home

Former Louisiana Congresswoman was 97.

Former Congresswoman and Civil Rights Activist Lindy Boggs, 97, died at her Chevy Chase home Saturday, ABC News reported.

Boggs, who is the mother of ABC News reporter Cokie Roberts, served 18 years in Congress, taking over her husband’s term in the House of Representatives after he died in 1973.

Boggs represented a majority black district in Louisiana. When she retired from the House in 1990, she said,  "I am proud to have played a small role in opening doors for blacks and women."
