Show Who the Money? Agencies

A new MeriTalk study, “Show Me the Money:  The Key to Doubling Agency Savings,” underwritten by Brocade, finds that if agencies were to fully leverage five key IT initiatives – consolidation, virtualization, cloud computing, remote access, and infrastructure diversification – they could save 24 percent of their IT budgets.  That’s a combined $19.7 billion across the entire government.

Currently, the Federal government is only saving about $8.5 billion – leaving $11.2 billion up for grabs.  That’s because agencies aren’t fully leveraging these technology areas:

Ø  Consolidation:  62% fully or partially deployed, which means that $4.7 billion savings is possible, but only $1.9 billion is currently achieved

Ø  Virtualization:  53% fully or partially deployed, which means that $4.5 billion savings is possible, but only $1.8 billion is currently achieved

Ø  Cloud computing:  38% fully or partially deployed, which means that $4.2 billion savings is possible, but only $1 billion is currently achieved

Ø  Remote access:  70% fully or partially deployed, which means that $3.3 billion savings is possible, but only $2.3 billion is currently achieved

Ø  Infrastructure diversification:  50% fully or partially deployed, which means that $3.0 billion savings is possible, but only $1.5 billion is currently achieved

For agencies interested in calculating their potential and achieved savings, MeriTalk and Brocade have developed a do-it-yourself calculator.
