Students Continue Teacher's Fight Against Cancer

Some of you will remember that in 2011 and 2012 students at Our Lady of Lourdes school in  Bethesda  rallied around their beloved teacher, Ms. Kate Truax, to support her in her fight against cancer. (http://bethesda-chevychase.patch.com/groups/schools/p/video-bella-bethesda-and-our-lady-of-lourdes-team-up-b722f32a34).  Ms. Truax lost her battle with cancer in December 2012 when she was only 30 years old. She had touched many hearts in her short life -over 1,000 people attended her funeral. Moved by the loss of Ms. Truax, a group of area high school students are participating in a fundraising campaign in her memory to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)http://nca.studentoftheyear.llsevent.org/teamtruax. Students from  Bethesda-Chevy Chase , the Academy of the Holy Cross, Gonzaga, The Heights, Georgetown Prep, Visitation, and Churchill are members of "Team Truax". All of these students first met Ms. Truax when she taught them literature in elementary school at Our Lady of Lourdes. Team Truax was formed as a result of LLS' inaugural Student of the Year fundraising competition. The high schoolers participating want to raise funds in honor of their friend and teacher. The campaign, which began on January 16th and is only six weeks long, aims to raise $50,000 to obtain a research grant in Ms. Truax's name. Area restaurants will be hosting proceeds nights for Team Truax and the Team is planning a number of events to raise awareness and funds for this cause. GO TEAM TRUAX! Someday is today! http://www.lls.org/
