Bethesda, Chevy Chase Crime: Robbery at Greentree Shelter, Burglary at Subway

Also included in the county police's most recent crime summary: graffiti, residential burglaries and thefts from vehicles in Bethesda and Chevy Chase.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between June 17 and 25. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

  • A robbery occurred at the Greentree Shelter (6301 Greentree Rd., Bethesda) on Sunday, June 23, at 11 p.m. The suspects forcefully tried to remove property from the victim, but nothing was obtained. A 16-year-old male juvenile and an 18-year-old man, both from Bethesda, were arrested in connection with the robbery, according to the crime summary. The Greentree Shelter "serves as a transitional home for homeless families, primarily children with single mothers," according to the nonprofit organization's website.
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Subway restaurant at 7201 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, on Wednesday, June 26, at about 1:25 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • Graffiti was applied to the Mattress Warehouse property at 6930 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, between Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 22.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8100 block of Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, between Friday, June 21, and Sunday, June 23. There was an unknown entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 6800 block of Wilson Lane, Bethesda, on Sunday, June 23, at about 4:40 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8900 block of Holly Leaf Lane, Bethesda, on Saturday, June 22, between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. There was an unknown entry, and property was taken.
  • Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred in the 10300 block of Strathmore Hall Street, Bethesda, between Saturday and Monday, June 22 and 24. Five separate vehicles were forced open. Laptop computers, car stereos, tools and DVDs were among the items reported taken.
  • Five thefts from vehicles occurred in residential neighborhoods near Friendship Heights. All of the vehicles had been left unsecured, and loose items left inside were reported missing. Streets affected included Grantham Avenue, Surrey Street, Park Avenue, Ventnor Road and Greystone Street.
