Bethesda, Chevy Chase Crime: Robbery at Safeway, Burglary at Eye Doctor's Office

Crimes in Bethesda and Chevy Chase included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Nov. 25 and Dec. 3. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Armed robberies:

  • An armed robbery occurred in the 2400 block of Colston Drive in Chevy Chase on Saturday, Nov. 30. at about 6:45 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred at Westfield Montgomery mall (7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda) on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at about 12:15 a.m. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property.

Commercial robbery:

  • A commercial robbery occurred at the Safeway at 4701 Sangamore Rd., Bethesda, on Friday, Nov. 29, at about 6:30 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property. 

Thefts:

  • A theft occurred in the 5200 block of Westwood Drive in Bethesda on Sunday, Dec. 1, between 12:30 and 8:30 a.m. Property was taken from outside a residence. 
  • A theft occurred in the 5600 block of Wood Way in Bethesda overnight between Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 2 and 3. Property was taken from outside a residence. 
  • A theft occurred in the 5600 block of Sonoma Road in Bethesda between Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 26 and 27. Property was taken from outside a residence. 

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at Bethesda Vision Care (4300 East-West Highway, Bethesda) on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 2:41 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken.  
  • A commercial burglary occurred at Village Green Apothecary (5415 West Cedar Lane, Bethesda) on Monday, Dec. 2, at about 8:40 p.m. Unknown entry; unknown what was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Sprint kiosk inside the Westfield Montgomery mall (7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda) on Sunday, Dec. 1. Property was taken from the kiosk. 

Thefts from vehicles:

  • A theft from a vehicle occurred on Brierly Road in Chevy Chase overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 26 and 27. Forced entry; vehicle parts taken. 
  • Eight thefts from vehicles parked on Nicholson Lane and Strathmore Hall Street in Bethesda occurred. In five incidents, gas was siphoned out of vehicles. In the other three incidents, loose cash and random items were taken from the vehicles.
  • Multiple thefts from vehicles parked on Baltimore Avenue, Allan Road and Westridge Road in Bethesda occurred during the overnight hours between Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 27 and 28. Vehicles were left unlocked, and loose cash was reported taken. 

Graffiti:

  • An incident of graffiti occurred at Ashburton Elementary School (6314 Lone Oak Dr., Bethesda) between Wednesday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 30.
