Bus Fire Closes Goldsboro

All passengers reported off the bus.

Update, 5:48 p.m.:

The bus that caught fire this afternoon in Bethesda was a small RideOn bus with about 25 seats, said Capt. Oscar Garcia, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman.

The bus was not carrying any passengers at the time the fire started in its engine compartment, which is located at the front of the bus, Garcia said. Rescuers extinguished the fire in about five minutes.

The driver of the bus was evaluated, but he was not injured or transported to the hospital, Garcia said.

It's not yet known how the fire started.

Update, 5:38 p.m.:

Southbound Goldsboro Rd. has re-opened, according to Montgomery County Police, but the northbound lanes remain closed following a bus fire Tuesday afternoon.

A bus caught fire in Bethesda Tuesday afternoon, prompting road closures.

Montgomery County Police reported that a call was recieved around 4:13 p.m. of a bus on fire near Massachusetts Ave. and Goldsboro Rd. in Bethesda.

It's not clear who operates the bus. According to Metro, there were no reports of a fire on a Metrobus.

All passengers were reported off the bus and Goldsboro Rd. was closed in both directions at Massachusetts Ave. Tuesday evening, according to Montgomery County Police.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue did not immediately return calls for comment.
