East-West Highway Starbucks Remains Closed Following Ceiling Fan Fire

The health department will need to complete an inspection before the coffee shop re-opens, according to fire and rescue officials.

The East-West Highway Starbucks remains closed following a Friday morning fire in a ceiling fan in the coffee shop's rear bathroom, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

The county health department must complete an inspection before it allows the shop to open, according to Beth Anne Nesselt, a county Fire and Rescue spokeswoman.

Responders arrived around 10:13 a.m., Nesselt said, and quickly extinguished the small electrical fire. The office building above the Starbucks was evacuated, and the workers had returned to their desks by about 10:30 a.m.

"There's a pretty comprehensive cleaning that needs to take place, which is pretty much standard with regard to this type of fire," Nesselt said.
