2 Suspects Apprehended After Police Chase, Helicopter Pursuit

A canine unit helped police find one of the suspects.

A car involved in a chase by Montgomery County police on Locust Hill Road in Bethesda Tuesday afternoon crashed near an intersection, and police apprehended two suspects—one of them after an extended chase involving a helicopter and dogs, police spokesperson Angela Cruz told Patch.

Police initially were called to the 9400 block of Locust Hill Road, Bethesda, just after 1 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a suspicious situation. Two suspects fled the site via vehicle, and police followed in pursuit. The suspects' vehicle crashed at 1:18 p.m. near the intersection of Royal Dominion Drive and Jensen Place, Bethesda, and one suspect was taken into custody, Cruz said.

Police used a helicopter and a canine unit to search for the other suspect on foot. A dog followed the scent of the suspect to the 7900 block of Royal Dominion Drive, and that suspect was apprehended at 1:49 p.m., Cruz said.

Police filed preliminary charges of felony theft to begin the pursuit, Cruz said.
