Huguely Sentencing for Ex-Girlfriend's Death Set for Aug. 30

A separate hearing will be held on Aug. 22 regarding George Huguely's defense team's motion to seek a new trial.

Chevy Chase native George Huguely is set to be sentenced on Aug. 30 for killing his ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love—of Cockeysville, MD—in 2010.

Huguely attended the Landon School in Bethesda. Both Love and Huguely played lacrosse at the University of Virginia.

Huguely and his lawyers had requested that the sentencing be pushed back to after Oct. 1, but a Charlottesville Circuit Court judge denied that request, The Washington Post reported.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, a separate hearing will be held regarding Huguely's defense team's .

"Huguely’s attorneys claim prosecutors erred by not telling them that Love’s mother was planning to sue Huguely," The Post added.

On Tuesday, June 5, "Huguely's lawyers filed a motion claiming Charlottesville Commonwealth's Attorney David Chapman broke the law by withholding information about Love's mother and sister, who testified in the criminal trial." The defense lawyers "claim Chapman knew the two were planning to file a civil lawsuit against Huguely," NBC Washington reported in June.
