Man Robbed While Walking on Custer Road

K-9 units were called out to investigate the Friday incident, according to police.

A man was robbed Friday as he was walking in the 7800 block of Custer Road in Bethesda, according to Montgomery County police.

Two suspects stole the victim’s wallet and phone around 10:45 p.m., according to Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Officer Janelle Smith.

Police described the suspects as two males between 18 and 25, one wearing a hooded sweatshirt. A K-9 unit was called out to investigate.

No arrests were made in the case Friday, Smith said, and it wasn’t clear whether any arrests had been made since the robbery.

Robberies are up nine percent since last year in Montgomery County Police’s second district, according to a recent crime update provided by Second District Commander Capt. David Falcinelli.

"These cases continue to be a priority and our detectives continue to make arrests and have closed out many of these events," Falcinelli wrote in the update.

Friday’s incident follows several other street robberies in Bethesda, including a Sept. 15 crime near Massachusetts Avenue during which a victim was sprayed with a substance that might have been pepper spray. During another incident on Sept. 24, two suspects attempted to rob a man walking near Artery Plaza, police said.

Police have recently arrested those they believe are responsible for three robberies in the Capital Crescent Trail tunnel that runs beneath Wisconsin Avenue. Two of those robberies—during which victims were punched in the face—are believed to be linked, Patch reported.
