Metro Bus Knocks Sign Into Man

The 60-year-old man had a bruised arm and a cut on his leg, but he declined medical assistance.

A Metro bus, traveling southbound along Wisconsin Avenue on the J-2 route, began turning onto Commerce Lane and hit a temporary construction sign at approximately 11:40 a.m. Sunday.

The orange, diamond-shaped sign in turn fell and hit a 60-year-old man standing nearby on the sidewalk, according to Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel.

The sign was marking a closed sidewalk, and a piece of the sign broke off and hit the man, Montgomery County Police spokesperson Capt. Paul Starks said.

The bus stopped, and the operator called emergency services, Stessel said. The man had a bruise on his arm and a cut to the leg, but he declined medical assistance, Stessel said.
