No Go: Women Cited for Packing Stun Guns in Carry-On Bags at BWI Airport

Women from Baltimore and Silver Spring, on separate flights out of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, were charged after packing stun guns in their carry-on bags.

Stun guns found in carry-on bags by Transportation Security Administration officers at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport have two women facing a weapons charge and hefty fine.

A bright purple stun gun was found in the bag of a Silver Spring woman Thursday morning as she entered a security checkpoint on her way to board a flight to Charlotte, N.C. That evening, officers found a hot pink stun gun in the bag of a Baltimore woman flying to Fort Lauderdale, FL, reports the Capital Gazette

Officers confiscated the weapons and cited both women on a weapons charge. They were permitted to catch their flights. Both women face a maximum of $11,000 in fines, the newspaper reports.

The stun guns were spotted when the women went through the security screening x-ray machines, reports WJZ TV.

The TSA website says stun guns can be packed in checked baggage, but they are not allowed on carry-on bags.
