Police Blotter: March 28 - April 5

A summary of recent crimes in Bethesda.

Montgomery County police recently released a summary of crimes in the county from March 28 to April 5. Following is a summary of recent crimes in Bethesda.

March 29

  • A residential burglary happened in the 5900 block of Searl Terrace in the overnight hours between Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30. There was unforced entry and cash and property was stolen.
  • Graffiti tags were reported in a boy’s bathroom at Walt Whitman High School, 7100 Whittier Boulevard around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29. The following Wednesday, a 17-year-old male was detained for bringing a knife to school and a search of his backpack uncovered graffiti markers and postal stickers.  The boy admitted writing the graffiti tags and was arrested.

An indecent exposure incident happened at Davis Library, 6400 Democracy Boulevard around 11:10 a.m.  A library patron reported to staff that she was with her child in the children’s section of the library when she saw a man drop his pants and expose himself.  Library staff responded to the children’s area and saw the suspect, then clothed. The suspect man fled the library before police could respond.  Police are describing the suspect as a black male, about six feet, two inches tall and 210 pounds, with a shaved head and a black mustache.

  • A residential burglary happened in the 7500 block of Helmsdale Road around 12:30 p.m. Three teenagers were when they heard a banging noise at the front door.  When no one answered the door, a suspect forced it open by breaking the door frame.  The suspect called out to see if anyone was home and was then heard fleeing the home and into a car waiting in the driveway. The two male suspects were driving a cream colored vehicle.
  • An attempted residential burglary happened in the 4400 block of Bywood Lane sometime between 12:45 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  There was attempted forced entry but the home wasn’t accessed.

April 1

A theft from a construction site happened in the 4600 block of Rosedale Avenue in the overnight hours between Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.  Tools were stolen from a home under construction and window pane in a rear door was broken.

April 3

A commercial burglary happened at the Westbard Citgo at 5335 Westbard Avenue in the overnight hours between Sunday April 3 and Monday April 4. There was forced entry and cash was stolen.
