Police: Holiday Shopping Patrols Lead to Drug Arrest Near Montgomery Mall

Cocaine and marijuana were found on a man and a woman who were arrested after a traffic stop near the mall Dec. 4, police said.

Police say they found cocaine, marijuana and a prescription narcotic pill in the car of a man and woman they arrested after a traffic stop near the Westfield Montgomery Mall Dec. 4.

Police say the arrests were made during a Police Community Action Team patrol, part of an effort to step up police presence in shopping areas around the holidays.

Jonathan M. Logan, 21, of the 10700 block of Hollaway Drive in Upper Marlboro, and Czaryna Mortley, 21, of the 3600 block of Spring Hollow Lane in Frederick, are facing drug charges following the arrest.

Logan is also facing credit card theft charges after police say they found a stolen credit card in his possession.

According to police, the PCAT was making a holiday shopping patrol near the mall when they pulled over a car with a non-functioning headlight and non-functioning tag lamp that made the license plate illegible.

After pulling over the car and making contact with Logan and Mortley, police say they noticed the smell of fresh marijuana. After searching the car, officers found marijuana cigarettes, a baggie of cocaine, and a pill they determined to be a prescribed narcotic.

The suspects "had significant criminal histories ranging from check/credit card fraud to robbery and possession of a handgun," Capt. David Falcinelli, commander of Montgomery County Police's Second District, wrote in a recent crime update.

Police are stepping up patrols in downtown Bethesda, Friendship Heights and the Montgomery Mall during the holiday shopping season.
