Police Make Arrest In Geste Wine Armed Robbery

Suspect also charged with robbing a Bethesda Sunoco station at gunpoint hours before robbing Geste, police say.

Montgomery County police have made an arrest in and they’ve charged the same suspect with robbing a Bethesda Sunoco station just hours earlier.

Police say that around 4:10 on the morning of June 15, a man entered the Sunoco station at 8240 Wisconsin Avenue, displayed a gun and stole cash. Later that day, around 2:17 p.m., Geste Wine on Edgemoor Lane was similarly robbed at gunpoint. The suspect had last been seen fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Following the crimes, police interviewed a witness who noticed a man acting suspiciously outside a business near the Sunoco station just before the robbery there, according to Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman.

“What caught their attention was that it was four in the morning,” Innocenti said. “It was very early in the morning and a male was hanging around this building. The business wasn’t open, so there should be no reason why anyone should be hanging around that building.”

The witness gave police the man’s license plate number, which lead them to identify Raymond Adell Sanders, 23, of the 13400 block of Danielle Court in Brandywine, as a suspect.

After serving a search warrant on Sanders’ home, police said they uncovered evidence that linked Sanders to the crimes, including a handgun they believe he used during the robberies.

Sanders is charged with two counts of armed robbery.
