George W. Huguely V, who was convicted almost two years ago for the 2010 murder of fellow University of Virginia student Yeardley Love, appealed his conviction in the Virginia State Court of Appeals on Wednesday, NBC Washington reported.

Huguely, of Chevy Chase, is serving a 23-year-sentence for a second-degree murder conviction. His lawyers argued on Wednesday that when one of his lawyers became very ill during his trial in February 2012, he was denied the right to an attorney, NBC reported.

His lawyers also argued that his jury was not impartial, and that the jury had not been properly instructed on the definition of malice, NBC reported.

An appeals court ruling is not expected for another three or four months, NBC 29 reported from Charlottesville.
