Sculptures Stolen From Ratner Museum

Six bronze sculptures were taken between Friday evening and Monday morning, police said.

Six bronze sculptures were stolen from the garden of the between Friday and Sunday, police said.

Montgomery County Police estimate the robbery occurred between 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Sunday. Five of the six sculptures were damaged in the theft, police said.

The museum, which is located at 10001 Old Georgetown Road, is closed Fridays and Saturdays. The owners found the sculptures missing when they opened on Sunday morning.

Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said police could tell the sculptures were damaged by the broken stands that remained in the garden.

"It is clear that [the sculptures] were pried," Starks said. "They were bent back and forth until it finally loosened from what was keeping it there in the yard."

Police believe the sculptures were likely stolen for the value of the metal. Police do not have a suspect.
