Workers Rescued After Dangling 75 Feet Above Ground

Two men working on the exterior of a building at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda had to be rescued after their scaffold gave way, leaving the pair dangling about 75 feet above the ground.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews were called to Building 10 on the NIH campus Wednesday morning. Initial reports said the workers were window washers, but that was later corrected.

The men were laying bricks on the exterior of the building, authorities said, when their scaffold partially collapsed.

Pete Piringer, spokesman for the fire department, told WJLA TV the workers were suspended in place by safety equipment.

The National Institutes of Health fire department was able to rescue the men using a bucket ladder, the TV station said.

The workers were evaluated by EMS and taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Piringer said on his Twitter feed.
