The merger, part of the federal Base Realignment and Closure process, will mean that the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center will see 2,500 new employees, a doubling of the patient load, 500,000 more visits by military and their families, and all the traffic that goes along, according to the site.

The new site is part of a push by officials to educate residents about the merger and how it will affect their commutes and their lives. It details construction projects in and around NavyMed — some of which are aimed to mitigate BRAC traffic — and offers information about alternative ways to commute to work.
