Lieutenant Gov. Anthony Brown and his running mate, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman, were expected to file on Friday afternoon, the paperwork to run for governor and lieutenant governor of Maryland. Ulman was scheduled to join Brown at the Maryland State Board of Elections.

Even at this early point, the pair is not alone in the contest for the Democratic nomination to succeed Gov. Martin O’Malley.

Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, long considered a candidate for governor, will officially announce his candidacy on Tuesday, Sept. 24, during three events in Rockville, Ellicott City and Reservoir Hill in Baltimore.

Del. Heather Mizeur also has announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination.
