This Weekend: What to Know if You're Taking Metro

Expect delays and large crowds on the Red Line.

If you’re planning on hopping the Red Line this weekend, expect delays and major maintenance work, as well as increased crowds for Halloween celebrations. Here are a few important things to know, according to WMATA:

  • Trains will run on a single track every 20 minutes between Dupont Circle and Union Station as Metro crews continue to stabilize a municipal water main and sewer line within Farragut North Station.   Saturday and Sunday trains will be running about every 10 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont.
  • From 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday Red Line trains will depart every 10 minutes from Shady Grove and Glenmont stations. Every other train from Shady Grove station will terminate at Dupont Circle; every other train from Glenmont will terminate at Union Station.
  • Riders attending Halloween events in Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle and downtown are encouraged to use Metrobus or the DC Circulator.
  • All Red Line riders should allow for an extra 30 minutes to their anticipated travel time, and expect larger than usual crowds.

For future trip planning, be sure to check out Metro’s recently released major track work calendar.  Metro temporarily closes stations or clusters of stations over weekends to speed up their maintenance work schedule.
