Raise a glass of Pinot to Bethesda and Rockville for ranking No. 2 and No. 8 in Movoto Real Estate's Snobbiest Small Cities list.

Three cheers for Bethesda and Rockville for ranking among the top 10 “snobbiest small cities in America.”

Bethesda ranked No. 2 and Rockville tied for No. 8 with Encinitas, Calif. in Movoto Real Estate’s list of “snooty little cities” based on the nation’s wealthiest and best-educated population demographics.

More than 83 percent of Bethesda locals have at least a bachelor’s degree - the highest on the entire list. Bethesda also has the list’s third-highest household income and the highest median home price “so that people who wish to live well and be known for it won’t have much trouble.” The city also boasts the list’s 15th-highest private schools rank.

The list ranks cities with populations from 45,000 to 65,000 by data from the 2010 U.S. Census such as median home prices, median household income, population percentage with a college degree, private schools per capita and art galleries per capita.

The blog notes that “not everyone in these places thinks they’re the crème de la crème, or looks down their noses at others,” but Bethesda and Rockville are simply “more comfortable for what society calls ‘snobby’ folk.”
