Celebrity Chef Jose Andres Cooks For Bethesda Students

Andres, and his giant paella pan, made an appearance at the Woods Academy last weekend.

When celebrity chief Jose Andres imported his 500-pound, seven-foot-wide paella pan into the country, U.S. Customs officials cleared it after making sure it wasn't a satellite dish.

That said, 75 families Sunday came to a Bethesda independent Catholic school, to enjoy a Spanish picnic and watch Andres simmer his mix of rice, chicken and about a dozen other ingredients that make up one of Spain's signature dishes.

It was a first for new Head of School Joe Powers, who said, "This is such a wonderful gift for Jose and his team from Jaleo to share with the Woods community. He's touched us all in our hearts and stomachs!"

"Make sure you have the satellite dish pointed in the right direction," Andres said with his famous twinkle.
