A Cooking Love Story - The Ottoman Turk and the Pretty Jewish Girl

The author tells the fascinating story of her Jewish mother and Muslim father's forbidden romance in Istanbul Turkey, and shares some of the delicious recipes they brought with them to the United States.  Enduring bigotry and ridicule from society, Trock's parents found themselves at the center of a cultural cyclone.  The process of building a life together, entwining their unique ancestries, religions and cuisines was often confusing and painful especially for the couple's four children, for whom dinner time felt like its own "Mideast Crisis" every night.  Trock tells her story in an engaging way and invites us to taste some of the ethnic Jewish and Turkish recipes she grew up with. The recipes have remained,  delicious and moving legacies from her blended cultural heritage.
