American Indians: A History and Culture in Maryland

This lecture is presented by Keith Colston, a  Tuscarora-Lumbee Native American, who will speak on historical facts, census data and statistics,  and contemporary events of the American Indian Tribes that are indigenous to Maryland.  The lecture will present traditions and customs of American Indians in North America and there will be four dances that will be performed and shared with the audience.  The Crow Hop, Snake Dance, Men’s Traditional, and the Round Dance are inter-tribal dances that are a part of “gatherings” and “pow-wows”.   The dances will be explained in detail and audience participation is welcomed.  The lecture will provide an explanation of the music and how it connects to the dance and as a whole to the culture.
