Modern Art - A Walk Through the National Gallery
What makes these artists "modern"? How do we understand their art in the context of the society, culture, and artistic conventions of their times? This lecture surveys modern art through the painting and sculpture collections in the National Gallery of Art. It will start in the 19th century with works by Manet, Pissarro, and Cezanne. We then move to the 20th century collection and looks at works by Matisse, Calder, Pollock, and Rothko.
