THE TOPIC
Parents Helping Teens Overcome Pressure and Succeed
How to set high expectations for children without driving them crazy!

A talk for parents and students by Ned Johnson, President, PrepMatters, Inc.

THE LOGISTICS
Thursday, February 16, 7 pm
Auditorium, Whittier Woods [annex beside Whitman main building], 7100 Whittier Boulevard, Bethesda

THE GIST
We all want what is best for our children but how do we help them find balance between striving at school and maintaining a strong sense of self? Teens and even preteens juggle so much in their schedules: studies, extracurriculars, sports, family and friends…all while trying
to fit in some sleep. This talk will explore how to help you/your child chart a course toward and through high school, managing ambitious goals with limited time without feeling inadequate or getting crushed by the college admissions juggernaut.

PARENTS + STUDENTS WILL LEARN:
• Effective planning, time-management and goal-setting
• How sleep deprivation, cramming, procrastination and other issues contribute to “fall off ” on exams
• Best practices for studying and taking exams
• How to improve communication between parents and teens

THE SPEAKER:
Ned Johnson is the co-author of "Conquering the SAT: How Parents Can Help Teens Overcome the Pressure and Succeed." He has appeared on regional and national television and radio and publications including the New York Times, U.S. News, Time, USA Today, the Washington Post
and Newsweek. For more than a decade as President of PrepMatters, he has been a valued resource in the field of test preparation, anxiety management and student performance. Logging more than 30,000 hours of tutoring, Ned has tutored public, private and home-schooled students. He routinely takes the SAT, ACT, GMAT and other tests to maintain his familiarity with what students actually experience.
