Second Middle School Meeting Tonight

The new site-selection committee will discuss possible locations.

Montgomery County Public Schools' site-selection committee to discuss where to put a new middle school for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase cluster.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of .

During the last site-selection process, to the Board of Education, but after outcry from the community and the Parks Department, the board chose Rock Creek Hills Park instead.

In the ensuing months, neighbors and officials accused MCPS of ignoring transparency and community input in choosing a site, and, in November, the board voted to redo the process.

At tonight's meeting, the group may go into closed session to discuss the 13 privately owned locations under consideration, which schools spokesman Dana Tofig said falls in line with state law.

Superintendent Joshua Starr has said that the cluster needs a new school by 2017 to relieve overcrowding at , and that restarting the site selection will not delay that goal.
