Students Head Back To Modernized Seven Locks Elementary School

Students begin classes in new building Wednesday.

About 300 students will begin school Wednesday at a newly renovated

Many will be returning to find the school they once knew completely modernized -- complete with a new cafeteria and gym, state-of-the-art technology like Promethean boards, and a lot more elbow room.

But for some kindergarten and first-graders who began classes at the holding school on Radnor Lane where the community has been located for the last year and a half, heading to school will be a completely new experience, said principal Rebecca Gordon.

"There's a lot more space," Gordon said. "We're very excited."

Tuesday, Gordon said the school was a "beehive" of activity as contractors, Montgomery County Public Schools technology staff, teachers and parent volunteers worked to ready the building for the influx of students Wednesday morning.

A Montgomery County Public Schools press conference is planned Wednesday at Garrett Park Elementary School, another school that will open today following a modernization, to announce the re-opening of the new Garrett Park, Seven Locks, and Cannon Road elementary schools.

Expected speakers include MCPS Superintendent Joshua P. Starr, Board of Education Vice President Christopher S. Barclay (Dist. 4), County Council President Roger Berliner (D-Dist. 1) and County Executive Isiah Leggett (D). Stay tuned to Patch for updates.
