Bethesda Baseball Star Danny Hultzen 'Pitched Brilliantly' in Rainiers' Season Opener

The local baseball star currently pitches for the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate team of the Seattle Mariners.

Bethesda's Danny Hultzen, 23—who got his start playing baseball in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase youth baseball program, Patch reported—made a good showing on opening night in the Pacific Coast League, The (Tacoma, WA) News Tribune reported.

"Hultzen [now playing for the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate team of the Seattle Mariners] pitched brilliantly for six innings," helping the Rainiers to beat the Fresno Grizzlies, 9-1, last Thursday night, The Tribune reported.

"He got ahead of hitters, he stayed ahead, he used both sides of the plate," Tacoma Rainiers manager Daren Brown told The Tribune. "The big thing for me is he went six innings and threw 73 pitches. He was real efficient."
