Bethesda's own gold medalist Katie Ledecky is a two-time winner in the "Golden Goggle" awards.
Organized by the USA Swimming Foundation, the Golden Goggles—swimming's answer to the Academy Awards—honor the top performances in American swimming.
At 15, Ledecky took gold during London's Summer Olympics in the women's 800m freestyle and broke an American record. Ledecky, who was the youngest member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, is a sophomore at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart.
Ledecky won for both "Breakout Performance of the Year" and "Female Race of the Year."
Ledecky received the "breakout" award from four-time gold medalist Lenny Krayzelburg and magician David Blaine during the Nov. 19 ceremony in New York City.
The award "is about knowing in your heart you can achieve something before anyone else thinks it's possible," Blaine said.
Ledecky thanked her teammates and coaches as she took home the honor.
Five percent of the final poll was determined by an online ballot, combined with the votes of the Golden Goggle voting panel.
