Katie Ledecky Wins Gold in Barcelona

Bethesda's Katie Ledecky set a new world record on Tuesday.

Bethesda resident Katie Ledecky, 16, won gold—again—this time, at the world swimming championships in Barcelona on Tuesday, July 30, The Washington Post reported.

Ledecky won the women's 1,500-meter freestyle, setting a world record at the same time, The Post stated: "Ledecky set a record of 15 minutes, 36.53 seconds, smashing the previous [record of] 15:42.54 set by Kate Ziegler in 2007. The medal is the second this week for Ledecky, who won the 400 freestyle on Sunday."

Last summer, at 15, Ledecky took gold during London's Summer Olympics in the women's 800-meter freestyle and broke an American record. She was the youngest member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, Patch reported.
