PGA Tour: How to Bike or Bus to Congressional for AT&T National

Biking or taking the bus to Congressional for the AT&T National? Here's what you need to know.

This is the big week for Montgomery County sports fans, as golf followers from around the world head to Bethesda's Congressional Country Club to watch the 2013 AT&T National tournament, a stop along the PGA Tour.

The tournament takes place Thursday, June 27, through Sunday, June 30, with professional practice rounds on Tuesday, June 25, and the AT&T National Pro-Am on Wednesday, June 26.

To take a bus to the AT&T National at Congressional, there are two options, according to the county’s public information office:

  • The T2 bus route between the Friendship Heights and Rockville Metrorail stations (operated by Metro during the week and by Ride On during the weekend) will run additional buses on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, with buses running every 15 minutes from 4 to 8 p.m. (Between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., buses will run every 30 minutes.) Regular Ride-On fares will apply. Get off at the River Road stop just west of Bradley Boulevard.
  • Ride On bus No. 36 from Bethesda also will get you to Congressional, but only during week days. Get off at the end of the route, on Bradley Boulevard at the Connelly School.

You won’t be able to walk in to the tournament from the main entrance to Congressional on River Road. Instead, after getting off the bus, walk south on Bradley Boulevard and follow signs and directions for a shuttle bus that will drop you off at the tournament’s main entrance on Persimmon Tree Lane.

Or, to walk from where the bus lets you off to Congressional, go south on Bradley Boulevard, then left on Persimmon Tree Road to Persimmon Tree Lane and the tournament’s main walk-in entrance.

This Persimmon Tree Lane tournament entrance also is the only authorized exit from the tournament.

If you’re being dropped off at the tournament, use the designated taxi, limousine or private vehicle drop-off at the Persimmon Tree Lane entrance. Note that vehicles will not be allowed to park or stand by the entrance, so you’ll want to coordinate your pickup with your driver.

One thing that will be available at the tournament’s entrance all day and free of charge: a set of bike racks.

To drive, you'll need to park at a designated parking lot and take a shuttle bus to Congressional. For information on driving to see the AT&T National, read more on Patch.
