Fourth of July in Montgomery County: What's Open, What's Not, What's Free

Most operations in Montgomery County will be closed on the Fourth of July.

Here's your guide to the Fourth of July in Montgomery County: 

Closed:

Find out what's happening in Bethesda-Chevy Chasewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Montgomery County offices.
  • Montgomery County libraries.
  • Montgomery County Public Schools administrative offices.
  • TRiPS Commuter stores in Silver Spring and Bethesda.
  • All county public schools and offices.
  • State of Maryland offices and courts.
  • All community centers and senior centers. Recreation department classes, including summer camps and fun centers, are cancelled. (Indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities will be open and aquatics classes will meet as scheduled.)
  • All Montgomery Parks Nature Centers, including Locust Grove Nature Center, Meadowside Nature Center and Black Hill Visitor Center.
  • All regional and recreational athletic fields.
  • All Montgomery Parks Tennis and Ice Centers, including Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Facility, Wheaton Indoor Tennis, Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena.

  • Ride-On and Metrobus will operate on a Saturday schedule.
  • Metrorail will operate on a special July 4 schedule.
  • Public parking garages, lots and curbside meters are free.
  • County liquor stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Refuse/Recycling pick-up:

  • No pickup—collection moves to the next day and the last collection day is Saturday.
