Elm Street Park to Get Capital Bikeshare Station

Ask and ye shall receive: The Town of Chevy Chase asked for a Capital Bikeshare station, and will get one in the next few weeks.

Capital Bikeshare opened up in Montgomery County last Friday, and among the county's new stations were four in downtown Bethesda and one in Chevy Chase, Patch reported.

More will be constructed soon, including one in Elm Street Park in the Town of Chevy Chase, near Wisconsin Avenue and the Capital Crescent Trail. (The Purple Line is slated to run along the park's northern border.)

The Elm Street Park station will be located at the intersection of Elm and 47th streets, Chevy Chase, and will have 15 docks for the bright red shared bikes. The station should be installed at some point in the next few weeks, hopefully by the end of October, Town of Chevy Chase Town Manager Todd Hoffman told Patch.

Why Elm Street Park?

Because the town asked for a station. They originally asked the Montgomery County Department of Transportation for a Capital Bikeshare station to be installed at the town's Lawton Recreation Center, a few blocks east of the park, Hoffman explained.

The county decided to place the station in Elm Street Park, a decision supported by the Town of Chevy Chase, Hoffman added.
