Report: New Developer Chosen for Second District Police Station

StonebridgeCarras will be building the district's new police station.

Developer StonebridgeCarras has been chosen to build the new Second District Police Station in downtown Bethesda. In exchange for building it at 4823 Rugby Ave., the developer will be able to redevelop the current police station site at 7359 Wisconsin Ave., The Gazette reported.

The current police station was built in 1961 and is in need of extensive repairs (costing about $200,000), The Gazette reported.

The project to build the new police station may be completed in 2015, and the county has budgeted $9.25 million for the project, The Gazette added.

Originally, developer JBG was going to build a new Second District police station on Cordell Avenue between Woodmont and Wisconsin avenues and receive the site of the current police station, but that deal fell through in November 2012.

StonebridgeCarras also is building The Darcy, an 88-unit luxury condominium, and The Flats, a 162-unit apartment building, at the site of former parking lots 31 and 31A, on Bethesda Avenue at Woodmont Avenue. (See photos of the current project on Patch.)

And, the developer is building a mixed-use development with a Harris Teeter grocery store at 8300 Wisconsin Ave.
