Wildflower Walk & Canal Stewards Cleanup
Potomac Conservancy has two great events scheduled for Sunday, May 15
Join wildflower expert Marijke Gate as we stroll along the C&O Canal towpath and explore the banks of the canal and river in search of both common and unusual spring wildflowers from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. Learn how they interact with other organisms to form a wonderful and complex ecosystem, and also some of
the wealth of folklore associated with these familiar plants.Event is free; no registration necessary; please wear comfortable walking shoes.
Then, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, help the Conservancy clean up and beautify the land and water surrounding Lock 8, and along miles 8 and 9 of the C&O Canal towpath. This monthly cleanup day is open to all ages, and is part of the Canal Steward Program, engaging volunteers in a long-term relationship in which they become the caretakers of a designated site within the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Cleanup activities include picking up trash, pruning vegetation along trails, and repairing the towpath
and trails. Wear clothes that can get dirty- we’ll provide all the necessary tools and equipment. For more information, please visit www.potomac.org/site/river-center-events/index.php.
